Best Ecodesign

In one of our latest press releases for HEWI, we described the newly developed Re seat family as a "statement for best eco-design". Why? Because of the material: so-called post-industrial recyclate, short PIR. And in the interests of short supply chains, HEWI decided to source the frames in the classic round tube design from a supplier close to its own site. The materiality of the recycled material reveals its very own charm: the slightly mottled surfaces with their unique patterns and translucent splashes of color appear lively and individual.

Re - the syllable forms the product name and also stands for Reuse, Reduce, Recycle. The new seat family is particularly notable in terms of "reuse": part of the recycled material - a high-quality post-industrial recyclate (PIR) - for the seats, back- and armrests of the new stools and bathroom chairs comes from HEWI itself and a company that is also based in Bad Arolsen. In this context, it is important to HEWI both to strengthen the regional supply chains and to achieve meaningful results across companies and cooperate with local partners.

The special charm lies in the fact that the recycled stools, which are made from a mixture of recycled polypropylene and recycled polyamide, not only reduce plastic waste, but that each seat and armrest is unique.

HEWI Managing Director Thorsten Stute gave us an interview as part of the press release. Here is one of his statements: "HEWI is regarded as one of the first plastics processing companies in Germany. The success story begins with the founding of the company in 1929, when Heinrich Wilke produced the first products made of polyamide. Decades of experience and constant striving for innovation have made HEWI a sought-after expert in the field of plastics and injection molding technology. For this reason, it made sense to look into the reuse of plastic. Especially in view of the fact that the necessary know-how and machines are already available on our company premises."
